Pietà

This tapestry is about the story of Adam and Eve and Original Sin in relation to contemporary society, especially what effect the Bible story still has in our Western society today. In Paradise, the devil disguised as a snake tempted Eve to take a bite of the forbidden apple, then Eve tempted Adam, resulting in both being banished from Paradise.

These sentences can be heard very often when addressing inappropriate behaviour. It was just a joke, he didn’t mean it like that! Bet you asked for it, it’s just the way he is……. And so on, and so on. Every time a new sentence pops up in the media, or when I encounter one myself, I might include it in the next tapestry…

Het ergste moet nog komen

The artwork "Het ergste moet nog komen" by Schopenhauer is a striking commentary on the rise of right-wing extremism and fascism in the Netherlands. Made from gold-plated handwoven beads and featuring Fraktur script, it reflects on history’s dark chapters. The quote is a chilling reminder of potential consequences in today’s political climate.
